Sound travels through air, and through physical objects. Once the sound reaches a physical object, the object will vibrate and the person on the other side of the object will hear that sound. In many instances we can use a steel product called resilient channel to aid in separating spaces, thereby reducing the surface area of vibration.

There are many drywall installation applications we can use to effectively mute outside noise such as QuietRock drywall, or QuietFX drywall. This type of drywall is essentially two sheets of drywall with thicker composite material, glued together with a special formulated polymer designed for sound attenuation. While it is an expensive option, it is effective and space-saving.
